Don’t put your business and yourself at risk! Following the launch of “Flag It Up,” estate agents can expect further scrutiny from HMRC when it comes to anti-money laundering (AML) in 2019.
- The 5th Money Laundering Directive will make Money Laundering compliance mandatory in elements of lettings as well as sales.
- HMRC have recently introduced a series of fixed administration fees that will be payable on top of any fines issued.
- The estate agency sector accounted for only 0.2% of suspicious activity reports (SARS) made in the last 18 months.
- Risk assessments for businesses and as part of customer due diligence on both sellers and buyers are mandatory requirements as are PEPS and sanctions checks.

Estate Agents are waiting for the big reveal on Monday after Lord Best has admitted some firms could close when the regulation of property agents (ROPA) makes its recommendations to the Government early next week.
Lord Best, the chair of ROPA, has already outlined the working group’s desire for more regulation.
