Pay as you go AML Checks

16th April 2015

Did you know that through ETSOS you can order AML checks on a non-contract, pay as you go basis?
Not only can this be used in conveyancing departments, but across your firm with our quick order facility for non-conveyancing clients.

The data sources interrogated by the AML check include:

  • Electoral Register, County Court Judgments, bankruptcies, administration orders etc.
  • The Credit Account Information Sharing (CAIS) file
  • Deceased warnings
  • Fraud and Sanctions
  • PEP warnings

Foreign National AML / Document Check
You can also can also choose from two levels of service for international documents, again on a pay as you go basis:

Basic Scan
The basic service utilises Optical Character Recognition (OCR) which electronically checks the Machine Readable Zone (MRZ) against the document itself and the Name, Date of Birth and Gender input by the user.

If the input data does not match the document, the incorrect element(s) will be highlighted in Red on the Electronic result and will show as a Mismatch. In these instances, if the CheckSum Results are either Pass or N/A, the overall result will be Pass, although you would need to review any mismatch as this could affect your PEP and Sanction screen. e.g. If the individual’s name has been spelled incorrectly on input, this could cause an incorrect Pass or Fail when checked against the Dow Jones Watchlist.

If any of the algorithmic checks Fail, the relevant element(s) will be highlighted in Red under “CheckSum Results” and the overall decision will be Fail suggesting the document is fraudulent.

Full Scan
Full Scan checks are carried out by Level 3 trained Immigration officials and check the actual validity of the document itself, rather than referring back to input data. Various security features pertinent to the specific document type will be checked such as font type and size, laminate and holograms.

Where an MRZ is present the electronic check conducted in a Basic Scan outlined above will also be performed. However, it is important to note that the Expert Decision will take precedence over the Electronic Decision.

This means should the Basic Scan return a Mismatch result, and the Expert Decision is a Pass, the overall decision will be a Pass.

CPRs; the implications

In 2014 The Properties Misdescriptions Act was repealed and replaced with the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations, otherwise known as CPRs.

The main change was a shift in focus away from caveat emptor, or buyer beware, to greater transparency for those involved in the purchasing or renting of property where agents are historically famous for flowery language and an economic use of the truth! (more…)
